In case I didn't mention it, we did not win a billion in Tuesday's Mega Millions drawing.

Yet again.

I don’t know how many times we can NOT win a billion dollars.

I mean, we have to be due.

Have to be.

LTA will be picking up some more tickets for the one and a quarter BILLION dollar Mega Millions drawing on Friday. But I am beginning to worry the machine at the track is rigged and it only gives us crap random numbers.

So LTA is offering a $95,000 bonus to whomever gives us decent, actually well thought out numbers. I’m asking anyone who reads this in time to choose 3 numbers between 1 and 70 that actually make sense and leave them in the comments below. (You have until 4:00 pm Friday the 4th.)

IF we win the jackpot and one of the numbers you picked is one of the numbers pulled on Friday you will get $95,000 on top of your fair share of the jackpot.

$95,000!

But don’t be flooding the company with nonsense numbers that you just pulled out of your ass. We need the prime Glengarry numbers.

Good luck!

Also, I am very excited for our first company field trip to the exciting Rapids World of Water Amusements! It is this coming Monday August 7th. If you want to beat the $15 parking fee, meet at the PBKC parking lot at 10:00 am for company car pooling. LTA will cover parking for everyone who leaves from the track and takes at least one buddy. If you are going to be carpooling let us know in the comments. It would be good to get a head count so no one shows up on Monday morning and gets left behind.

If you don’t carpool it would be nice if you got to the rapids by 10:30 am. I would really love to get a group photo for the LTA scrapbook so we can remember this important day in LTA history.

Good times!

How excited are you about the Rapids field trip?

I just wanted to let everyone know that we did NOT win a billion dollars in Wednesday’s Powerball drawing.

Sorry.

Every time a lottery gets above a billion dollars we buy some tickets for the company. So far we are 0 for 3 in winning a billion dollars.

But we will keep trying. If it turns out we end up winning a billion dollars I will let you know.

Two people who did win something though, are Sabrina and Kevin.

Earlier in the year everyone was asked to fill out a self evaluation along with the evaluations they did for the managers or DPs. Whoever’s self rating was the closest to their actual rating was promised a $50 gift card. I completely forgot to mention that the Know Yourself winners were Kevin and Sabrina. Congratulations!

I don’t remember who overrated themself the highest. But I know that the Modesty award (if there would have been one) went to adorably self critical Becky, who most underestimated her own score. Any superlative is a win. I suppose.

And finally, we are currently shooting for Monday, August 7th for our exciting water park field trip. If you have not indicated whether you are going or not on the last blog post, please go back there and click a button. Knowing who is actually going would be a win for me.

Carry on.

A few announcements.

First of all, we have a website.

Surprise.

ree

It’s going to take me a while to understand how running a website works, so bear with me. But I’m hoping we can eventually use this site for some worthwhile stuff.

We used to post company news on a Facebook page. But not everyone is on Facebook. So we'll be using this site instead.

If you would, check it out when something goes up. From time to time we’ll be posting news here that you may want to know about.

For instance, if you ignored this post you wouldn’t know about the water slides.

I don’t know when we will get around to having another one of our PitNic parties. So in the meantime, for those who are interested in such things, we are planning a field trip to hang out at The Rapids water park. We don’t have a date locked down yet. But I am hoping to make this work some time in the next month or two. Please let me know in the comments section below if you would like to go.

And while not as exciting as water slides, we are also making additions to our compensation package (another good reason you read this post).

Much of our compensation is paid out through profit sharing. That it is the safest way that I know of to increase compensation. Since it comes out of profit we know we can afford it. (As long as there is profit anyway. If we get sloppy and there’s a profit problem then there’s a bonus problem as well. But hopefully everyone is paying attention at the tables.)

We have traditionally paid this out at the end of the year. However I understand that waiting until the end of the year is not always ideal for some people. So going forward, we are planning to add an additional round of profit sharing around halfway through the year.

This will be a smaller distribution in two ways. It is using a smaller percentage of profit than the end of the year bonus does. And since we are less than halfway through the year it will be applied to a smaller number of hours.

This year it will apply to hours worked from January 1st to June 9th. But even with the smaller percentage of the profit pool, it still comes out to a little over $2 an hour for all hours worked in that time, an over $2 raise, in a manner, for those hours.

ree

And the good news is that this is simply an additional bonus. These hours will still be applied to the end of the year profit sharing, which will be taken from a larger percentage of the total year's profit. I hope to get the midyear deposits out sometime in the next week or so.

Overall, things have been running fairly smoothly at the track. I haven’t been needed on site as much as I used to be. So I want to thank everyone for allowing me the time to work from home on projects like this website and the things mentioned above.

And I think that's it. Before you go though, please let me know if you want to go on the Rapids field trip or not. The poll below should log your answer. The only hitch is that you have to be a member of our site to click one of the choices. This means you will have to sign up and confirm your email, a minor annoyance. But you'll only have to do it once.

We need everyone signed up to the site eventually so this is as good a time as any for you to become an official member of our shiny new LTA's Adventures in Probability Management website.

As always, thank you for reading this far.

Do you want to spend an all expenses paid afternoon at the Rapids waterpark?

  • 0%No, thank you. But it was a very kind offer.

  • 0%Definitely, yes! (But with annoying conditions. We'll talk.)
